The town of Vis is
situated on the northern coast
of the island along a most
fascinating bay of St.George,
closed ring-like by a small Host
islet. It is the only place on
the island having a daily
ferry-boat and hydrofoil
connection with Split, 30 nautic
miles distant coastal
town.During the summer season it
is also connected with the towns
on the Italian coast (
particularly Ancona).The town of
Vis is a good choice for those
coming without their cars,
because all the necesary
facilities are at hand in the
town. A pebbly beach is about
100 m away from the centre of
the town, there are also some
smaller beaches on the other
side of the bay, in the vicinity
of a marina. There is the
biggest number of categorized
and registered private units –
apartments and rooms. Here you
can choose several locations:
sunny Bandirica with the view on
the Vis bay; the centre of the
town, old town nucleus;
attractive Valica or romantic
Kut (Corner) and Marina. The
private accommodation is divided
into apartments and rooms only.
Apartments are of different
sizes and can satisfy different
requirements. Most of them have
the sea-view, a terrace and a
barbecue in their garden, the
greatest distance from the sea
being 500 m. The town disposes
of numerous rooms with private
bathrooms or share a bathroom
with another room.
